|First-time Extensive Testing|
|The Austrian men’s team went through a rigorous round of strength, endurance and shooting tests over for two days at the Olympic Training Center in Rif near Salzburg earlier this week. Although the shooting analysis by Dr. Gerold Sattlecker has been done for years now, the more extensive fitness tests, initiated by new Head coach Remo Krug, were done for the first time this year.|
“Every Step Hurts”
The athletes visibly were giving everything they had during the leg and upper body strength tests. Christoph Sumann admitted to how tough this was and that he felt sore on the second day. “These strength tests make your legs so heavy, every step hurts. But we get results through them that will help us in our training. A repeat of these tests within the training period definitely makes sense. After I did not shoot much this year it was great to start indoors. You can focus on the basics without the influence from the environment.”
Head Coach Remo Krug was aware how hard these tests were; they will help to distinguish individual focus points for the training season. “During these two days the athletes were asked to give a lot. I am totally aware of this. But we can only find out important information for the future in this way. Especially the shooting analysis is not only a test but also a good training due to the strain on the bodies because of the testing. The results will give us important insights that we will use for the immediate planning of their training.”
The entire team participated in these tests with the exception of Dominik Landertinger, who was unable to attend due to recent knee surgery. In the afternoon, the Austrian youth and junior athletes also came to Rif for the shooting tests. Among that group were Lisa Theresa Hauser and Christina Rieder, both Bronze medal winners at this year’s IBU YJWCH.
