IBU Cup 3: Obertilliach

IBU Cup 3 will kick off tomorrow in Obertilliach, Austria, where the first IBU Junior Cup was held last weekend. Thirty nine teams with 156 men and 113 women are here for the final weekend of competitions before the holiday break.

Nechkasova and Babikov Take Ridnaun Pursuits

Galina Nechkasova of Russia made up for yesterday's fourth place by winning the women's 10 K pursuit with just one penalty in 31:49.1. Later in the day, Anton Babikov of Russia scored a confident win in men's 12.5 K pursuit with two penalties in 33:45.

Varvynets and Babikov Takes IBU Cup Sprints

Clean-shooting Iryna Varvynets of Ukraine with bib number 3 won the women's sprint in Ridnaun in 22:03.9. Later in the day, Anton Babikov of Russia won the men's 10 K sprint in 25:10.8, with one penalty, scoring his first IBU Cup podiu

France Wins Single Mixed Relay; Russia Takes Mixed Rly

Anais Chevalier and Aristide Begue won the single mixed relay in Ridnaun in 36:41.9, using just five spare rounds. Germany’s Luise Kummer and Matthias Dorfer took second place using seven spares. Later in the day, Team Russia with Victoria Slivko, Uliana Kaisheva, Matvey Eliseev and Alexey Volkov used just two spare rounds to get a confident win in 1:14:46.4.

IBU Cup 2 in Ridnaun; Man-made Snow

IBU Cup 2 in Ridnaun started this morning with women's official training. The beautiful Italian village, surrounded by the mountains, in contrast to last season is lacking snow this year. Despite that, the organizing committee did a good job and prepared well-covered and hard tracks.

Eliseev and Landheim Win Sprints in Idre

Matvey Eliseev of Russia won the second men's sprint in Idre, claiming the title in 27:06.6. Eliseev had two penalties as did the women's winner Bente Landheim of Norway, who won in 23:14.4.

Pashchenko and Gwizdon Win First Idre Sprints

Despite weather conditions that were less than perfect, Russia's Petr Pashchenko and Poland's Magdalena Gwizdon scored sprint wins today in IBU Cup 1 at Idre. Pashchenko shot clean to win in 26:55, while Gwizdon also shot clean to win the women's title in 21:48.8.

Opening of the New Season in Idre

Tomorrow the first IBU Cup for the new 2015-16 biathlon season kicks off in Idre, a small Swedish city and ski resort. This traditional place for the opening of the IBU Cup is midway between Östersund and Oslo.

France Battles, Wins IBU Cup Mixed Relay

An exciting mixed relay, the last competition of the2014-15 IBU Cup biathlon season, was held on Saturday in Canmore. Eleven teams battled for the final podium spots with the temperature around 4C, some sun, and clouds. Team France with Anais Chevalier, Marine Bolliet, Baptiste Jouty and Antonin Guigonnat, used just 6 spares, less than any other squad, to finish on the first in 1:07:05.5. Austria with 9 spare rounds became second, snatching second place from the Italian team on the last loop, 11.3 seconds back. The Italians were in the lead until the last shooting stage, but lost not only first, but even second place; with 7 spares they finished third, 25.0 seconds behind. Fourth place went to Germany, Norway fifth, and Russia finished sixth.
