IBU World Cup Total Score: Fourcade and Soukalova

The big Crystal Globes for the IBU World Cup Total Score were awarded to Martin Fourcade and Gabriela Soukalova late yesterday afternoon in a ceremony at the Hotel Olympic in Khanty Mansiysk.

Martin Fourcade: Globes, Passion and Family Video

Martin Fourcade dominated this season almost like no other. He won four Gold medals and one Silver medal at the recent IBU World Championships. Today, he officially completed his sweep of the crystal globes taking home the sprint, pursuit, individual and mass start small globes plus the big one the World Cup Total Score.

Simon Schempp Tops Johannes in Pursuit

Germany's Simon Schempp won this evening's men's 12.5K pursuit, with three penalties in 33:27.8. Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe, with one penalty was second, 8.5 seconds back. Third went to Germany's Erik Lesser, with two penalties 15.7 seconds back.

Kaisa Doubles Up with Pursuit Victory

Finland's Kaisa Mäkäräinen doubled her fun today by adding a pursuit win to go with Thursday's sprint win. She recovered from single penalties in the first prone and first standing stages to finish in 30:06.7 France's Marie Dorin Habert, with one penalty finished second, 1.5 seconds back. Italy's Dorothea Wierer matched Dorin Habert at the shooting range but finished third, 5.7 seconds back.

First Career Win for Julian Eberhard in Khanty Sprint

Austria's clean-shooting Julian Eberhard won his first World Cup title, claiming men's 10K sprint today in 24:18.6. Germany's Simon Schempp finished second, 1.1 seconds back with teammate Arnd Peiffer in third, 23 seconds back; both shot clean.

Hora Targets: It’s All about Hits and Misses

Almost 30 years ago, in 1987, a biathlon coach and an electronics engineer put their heads together and dreamed of a reliable electronic biathlon target system to replace the existing mechanical targets that would remove the chance of human error, improve the scoring system and be both user and fan friendly. Khanty Sprint to Kaisa; Second Year in a Row

Finland's Kaisa Mäkäräinen won today's 7.5K sprint, with one penalty in 20:42.3, taking the sprint title here for the second year in a row. Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic shot clean hit to finish second, 3.1 seconds back. Norway's Marte Olsbu matched Soukalova on the shooting range, to finish in a career-best third place, 4.8 seconds back.

Andi Birnbacher Retires…More Time for Family & Fishing

Germany's Andi Birnbacher retired after the men's 20K last week in Oslo. It was fitting ending to a career that included 295 World Cup starts; Birnbacher had his first-ever World Cup win at the Holmenkollen Ski Stadium.
