Dominating Sprint Win for Johannes Thingnes Boe

Johannes Thingnes Boe of Norway made his short trip to the USA this week worthwhile by winning the men's sprint by wide margin this morning in a clean-shooting 24:38.8. Russia's Anton Shipulin also shot clean but finished second, 27.9 seconds back. Third went to Martin Fourcade of France wearing Yellow and Red, with one penalty, 28.9 seconds back.

Editors Choice Canmore Wrap-up: Scenery and Surprises

The past four days of competitions had a backdrop of wonderful scenery with a few surprises and some predictable results. The Italians dominated the mass start, with Dominik Windisch claiming his first World Cup win and dependable Dorothea Wierer topping the women’s field. Martin Fourcade continued to roll with a sprint win and the single mixed relay title with Marie Dorin Habert. This week’s “Editors Choice Canmore Wrap-up: Scenery and Surprises” is full of beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery and smiling faces; enjoy!

Germany Dominant in Mixed Relay Win

The German Team of Franziska Hildebrand, Franziska Preuss, Arnd Peiffer and Simon Schempp dominated the mixed relay this afternoon, winning in 1:05:38.8, 1:12.9 ahead of second place Italy and 1:23.8 ahead of third place Norway. Germany used four spares, while Italy had a penalty and ten spares and Norway seven spares.

Fourcade, Dorin Habert Duo Takes Single Mixed Relay

The French duo of Martin Fourcade and Marie Dorin Habert, with just four spare rounds easily won the single mixed relay this morning in 37:59. Austria finished second, with eight spares, 45.2 seconds back, while Norway with seven spares was third, 55.3 seconds back.

Frosty, the Canmore Biathlon Snowman

Everyone getting off the athlete and spectator busses at the Canmore Nordic Center for this week’s BMW IBU World Cup 7 is greeted by a familiar winter face, Frosty the Snowman! Frosty was carved out of packed snow by local artist Joe Martin over two days. Frosty has become a perfect “photo opportunity” for young and old, bringing a smile to many faces this week. Through the magic of time-lapse watch him come to life in “Frosty, the Canmore Biathlon Snowman.”

Italian Double: Wierer Wins Mass Start

Italy's Dorothea Wierer won the first mass start of her career, making it "Italian Day" after her teammate Dominik Windisch won the men's mass start just an hour earlier. Wierer had a single penalty in the first prone, but hit the next 15 shots in a row for a 36:50 victory. France's Marie Dorin Habert finished second, also with one penalty, 20.8 seconds back and Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic finished third, with one penalty, 50.2 seconds back.

Canmore Mass Start to Dominik Windisch

Italy's Dominik Windisch, with four penalties on a very windy morning, came from third position after the final standing stage to claim his first career World Cup win the mass start in 40:37.1. Second went to Germany's Benedikt Doll, also with four penalties, 4.1 seconds back, while France's Quentin Fillon Maillet was third, with three penalties, 8.6 seconds back.
