Begue Defends Title in Youth Individual

France’s Aristide Begue defended his World Championship title in the youth men’s 12.5K individual at the IBU YJWCH today. He had one penalty while finishing 5.6 seconds ahead of the USA’s Sean Doherty, who had three penalties. Third went to Ukraine’s Anton Myhda with one penalty, 40.2 seconds back.

Kaisheva is Queen of IBU YJWCH

Uliana Kaisheva crowned herself to the queen of the youth category with her third gold medal of these 2013 IBU Youth and Junior World Championships. She had two penalties, but was still 1:20.9 ahead of Yuliya Zhuravok of Ukraine who matched the Russian at the shooting range. Third place went to Zhuravok’s teammate Anastasiya Merkushyna with three penalties, 1:32.4 back.

IBU Educates Young Athletes about Anti-Doping

Boe and Doherty Win World Champion Titles

Johannes Boe of Norway won the Junior Men’s World Championship today in the 12.5K pursuit. He had three penalties and was 15.7 seconds ahead of Maxim Tsvetkov with six penalties and 42.7 seconds ahead of Alexandr Loginov with five penalties. The two Russians and the Norwegian already made up the sprint podium but in a different order.

Russia’s Podchufarova and Kaisheva Win Pursuits

Russia’s Olga Podchufarova and Uliana Kaisheva won the pursuit competitions today. Podchufarova was victorious in the Junior women’s 10K while Kaisheva won her second World Championship title of this year in the Youth women’s 7.5K pursuit with four penalties but never challenged. Podchufarova had three penalties, securing the victory only in the final standing stage.

Alexandr Loginov Wins Russian Dominated Sprint

All four Russian athletes finished within the top 8 in the junior men’s 10k sprint at the IBU YJWCH today, led by Alexandr Loginov. He was only 4.9 seconds faster, with one penalty than Johannes Boe of Norway who matched the Russian at the shooting range. Third place went to Loginov’s teammate Maxim Tsvetkov with two penalties, 11.9 seconds behind. Vetle Sjastad Christiansen, who finished fourth, also was in podium contention for a long time and even in the lead after the standing stage. However, he was not healthy and could not keep up during the last lap, despite his flawless shooting. He finished 20.6 seconds because hi s illness prevented him from keeping up with the others on the last lap. After he crossed the finish line he immediately went back to the hotel; a start tomorrow in the pursuit is not sure yet.

Dahlmeier Sprints to Gold Ahead of Podchufarova

Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier was strong on the tracks and shot clean during the junior women’s 7.5K sprint at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships. This performance secured her the World Championship title ahead of Russia’s Olga Podchufarova with three peanlties, 48 seconds back. Third place went to Austria’s Lisa Hauser with clean shooting, 57.9 seconds back, making the many local fans happy as well.

Gold for France’s Fabien Claude

Fabien Claude of France won the Youth Men’s 7.5K sprint at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships today. The new Gold medal winner had two penalties but was 3.6 seconds ahead of Sean Doherty of the USA who matched him at the shooting range. Third place went to Estonia’s Rene Zahkno with one penalty, 14.9 seconds back. This means that a total of five nations won medals on the first competition day.

Uliana Kaisheva Dominates Sprint

Russia’s Uliana Kaisheva, Youth Olympic Champion in Innsbruck last year, won the youth women’s 6K sprint at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships in Obertilliach, Austria. She had one penalty but was 1:00.5 faster than Lisa Vittozzi of Italy who shot clean. Third place went to Kaisheva’s teammate Svetlana Mironova with one penalty, 1:13.4 back.
