Russia wins Last Title in Nove Mesto

The Russian Junior women’s relay team won the 3x6K relay at the 2011 IBU Youth and Junior World Championships. The team of Aleksandra Alikina, Svetlana Perminova and Olga Galich finished first ahead of the Italians and Germans.

Germany Wins Exciting Relay

The German junior men won the 4x7.5K relay at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships in Nove Mesto ahead of the Russians and Norwegians. The Russian and German teams had three penalties, while the Norwegians had two, because of strong gusty winds combined with soft, slow snow.

Second Relay Gold for Russia in Relay

The youth women’s 3x6K relay at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships Biathlon in Nove Mesto na Morave was won by the Russian trio of Elena Badanina, Viktoriya Perminova and Ekaterina Zubova. The silver medal went to the team from the Ukraine, Bronze went to France. Neither of these teams had a penalty.

Russia Dominates; Wins Gold

The Russian youth men’s relay team won the Gold in a dominating fashion at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships Biathlon in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic today. The team representing Italy won Silver; the Bronze medal went to the Austrian team.

Dorothea Wierer: Queen of Nove Mesto

Dorothea Wierer of Italy won the third competition she started in at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships 2011, earning her the title, “Queen of Nove Mesto.” Despite two penalties, she managed to stay ahead of Olga Galich of Russia and Florie Vigneron of France.

Desthieux Realizes His Medal Dream

Simon Desthieux of France won the Junior Men’s 15k Individual at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships Biathlon ahead of Benedikt Doll OF Germany and Nikolay Yakushov OF Russia. Desthieux and Yakushov both had two penalties each while Doll had four.

Brun-Lie Wins Youth Individual World Championship

A smiling Thekla Brun-Lie of Norway won the world championship title in the youth women’s 10K individual at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships Biathlon in Nove Mesto na Morave today. She missed two targets at the shooting range, just like the Russian Elena Badanina, who finished second, and Galina Vishnevskaya of Kazakhstan in third place.

Perfect Hancharou Takes World Championship

Pavel Hancharou of Belarus won the youth men’s 12.5k individual competition at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships Biathlon. He was the only one in a field of 102 competitors to stay perfect at the shooting range. Second place went to Steffen Bartscher of Germany ahead of Norway’s Vetle Sjastad Christiansen.

Kühn Moves Up in Junior Pursuit

Johannes Kühn of Germany won the IBU Junior World Champion’s title in the junior men’s 12.5K pursuit today after winning the Silver medal in the sprint yesterday. Second went to Ludwig Ehrhart of France ahead of Kühn’s teammate/ roommate Tom Barth.

Zubova & Wierer Double Up with Pursuit Titles

The podium in the youth women’s 7.5 pursuit of the youth women stayed the same as in the preceding sprint with Ekaterina Zubova ahead of Anais Chevalier of France and her Russian teammate Elena Badanina. Dorothea Wierer from Italy secured her second title of these championships in the junior women’s 10K pursuit ahead of Aleksandra Alikina of Russia and German Laura Dahlmeier.
