The small village of Obertilliach, Austria is a popular training destination for many biathlon teams as well as a regular host of IBU Cup competitions during the winter. Obertilliach will host the 2013 IBU Youth and Junior World Championships and is now in the process of remodeling the venue.

Although the Zufritt peak above the Italian village of Martell is covered in snow, the south Tyrolean village is busy getting ready for the IBU Summer Biathlon Open European Championships 2011. The shooting range was recently cleaned up and is ready for the athletes who will be competing for continental glory starting on Friday.

Sport, Training and Culture at Winter Youth Olympic Games

The first Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is set for Innsbruck, Austria from January 13-22, 2012. The competitions will be held for the best young athletes at the age of 14 through 18. The next generation is equally important for the Organizing Committee as it boasts a youthful face. Only five staff members are older than 40, yet working alongside the IOC this young group is currently developing one of the most important projects in the IOC's recent history.

PyeongChang elected as host of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games

The Olympic Winter Games 2018 will take place in PyeongChang. The Korean city won against Munich, Germany and Annecy, France in only one round of voting. In order to be elected in the first round, a city must receive the absolute majority of votes cast.

The IBU Cup season, the IBU's “Second Division, ended in Le Grand Bornand last weekend. Victor Vasilyev of Russia and Franziska Hildebrand of Germany won the IBU Cup Total Score with Russia taking the Nation’s Cup in both the men’s and the women’s category.

Germany Strong in Sprints

Two Germans scored victories in the final sprint competitions of the IBU Cup season on Saturday. Franziska Hildebrand, the fastest woman, took over the lead in the IBU Cup total score, while Florian Graf won the men’s sprint.

A Sporting Village

The village of Le Grand Bornand, host of the IBU Cup finale and next winter’s E.ON IBU Cup 3 Biathlon is in the French Alps, only about an hour outside of Geneva. From afar it looks like a quiet place with wooden houses clinging to the side of the mountains. However, this small village is probably one of the most successful places in the world of winter sports.

Ukrainians Golden in Women’s Relay

The winners of the women’s 4x6K women’s relay at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon in Ridnaun came from Ukraine. Olena Pidhrushna, Vita Semerenko, Juliya Dhzyma, and Valj Semerenko needed 1:19.52 to take the top spot, finishing 52.2 seconds ahead of the teams from Italy and Germany.
