Two Times Gold for Russia in Mixed Relays

Team Russia with Victoria Slivko and Anton Babikov first won the Gold medal in the single mixed relay with only four spares in 36:59.0. A few hours later, they made the local fans even happier with a second Gold medal in the hotly-contested regular mixed relay, winning in 1:10:56.4, just .1 seconds ahead of the surprising team from Slovakia. Anastasia Zagoruiko, Olga Iakushova, Matvey Eliseev, and Evgeniy Garanichev brough home Gold number two with one penalty and nine spare rounds.

IBU Open European Championships Starts in Tyumen

The IBU Open European Championships 2016 open tomorrow and will run through February 28 at the biathlon complex "Pearl of Siberia" in Tyumen, Russia in the southern part of Western Siberia.

Norway Holds Off Germany to Win YOG Mixed Relay

Norway's Sivert Guttorm Bakken held off the furious anchor leg push by Germany's Danilo Riethmueller to give Norway the Gold medal in the mixed relay, the final biathlon competition at the 2016 YOG. Norway had eleven spare rounds on their way to a 1:18:35.6 win, just 7.6 seconds ahead of Silver medalist Germany with nine spare rounds. Italy claimed the Bronze medal with a mere six spares, 1:30.4 back. Fourth went to France, followed by Russia in fifth and Ukraine in sixth. Norway's Gold medal team included Marit Oeygard, Marthe Krakstad Johansen, Fredrik Qvist Bucher-Johannessen and Bakken.

Tora Berger: Chat with a Champion

The Youth Olympic Games are not only about the competing, but also about learning and sharing. Yesterday, a group of young biathletes had a unique opportunity, to listen to and chat with Double Olympic Gold medalist and multi World Champion Tora Berger of Norway. Berger welcomed the young athletes, told them about her sports life, shared some secrets, gave advice and answered questions.

On the School Bus: The Class of ‘88

One of the highlights for many athletes last week in Presque Isle was riding from hotel to stadium on the big Yellow American-style school busses. After training one afternoon, our colleagues at Norway's NRK Television rode the bus back into Presque Isle with three of the best biathletes in the world, all born in 1988.

China Wins Gold in Single Mixed Relay at YOG

The People's Republic of China with Fanqi Meng and Zhenyu Zhu surprisingly took the Gold medal in the single mixed relay with two penalties and three spares in 41:35.4. The Silver medal went to the home team of Norway with one penalty and twelve spares, .3 seconds back. The Russian Federation after a photo-finish got the Bronze medal with total three penalties and thirteen spare rounds, 14.9 seconds back. France with the same time result as Russia became only fourth, Germany was fifth and USA finished in sixth.

Bakken and Dmytrenko Win Pursuit Gold at YOG

Sivert Guttorm Bakken of Norway with a penalty after the each stage won the Youth Olympic Gold medal in the men's 10K pursuit in 28:10.7. This afternoon, Khrystyna Dmytrenko of Ukraine missed just twice in the first prone to claim the Gold medal in women's 7.5K pursuit, finishing first in 25:12.9.

Editors Choice Presque Isle Wrap with Gabi and Johannes

The days got progressively colder in Presque Isle this week, but in the stadium every competition was hotly contested. The big winners were Gabriela Soukalova with her sprint/pursuit/relay hat trick and Martin Fourcade with his sprint win on day number 100 in Yellow while equaling Raphael Poirée with 44 World Cup wins. Fun & American Food with Doro, Luki and Friends

After three hard competitions in Canmore, every athlete travelling to Presque Isle was tired and needed a bit of a relaxation. The Italian quartet of Dorothea Wierer, Dominik Windisch, Karin Oberhofer, and Lukas Hofer after their big week in Canmore was treated to a surprise night out to celebrate and talk about their key to success. Follow them to the Long Lake Sporting Club for their American-style dinner in “Fun & American Food with Doro, Luki and Friends.”
