Babikov and Varcin win IBU Cup Sprints

Coline Varcin of France and Anton Babikov of Russia won the IBU Cup sprints today in Ridnaun. Both shot clean, with Varcin covering the 7.5K in 21.51.8, while Babikov's time was 24.26.0.

Martin Masters Ruhpolding 20K

Martin Fourcade of France mastered the snowy conditions on the tracks to take the men's 20K today, with a single penalty in 50:53.9. Second went to the man who beat him in last week's pursuit, Simon Eder of Austria, with one penalty17.5 seconds back. Anton Shipulin of Russia finished third, also with one penalty, 28 seconds back.

A Cake for Kaisa Mäkäräinen’s Birthday Video

Monday was a day off, no training for Kaisa Mäkäräinen, just as well, because it rained all day...and it was her birthday. After three hard days of competition that included a sprint podium, most of her birthday was spent, "in bed, resting." She added, "I hoped to go out for dinner with friends, but it is Monday on most of the restaurants in Ruhpolding are closed. So we will just wait another day and eat in the hotel." Mäkäräinen's birthday usually falls on a competition day and ever since her teenage years, she has spent her birthday on the road.

Biathletes Now, Friends Forever: Andreja, Eva, Weronika

Three biathletes from three countries; Slovenia Poland and Romania met years ago and become fast friends. Andreja Mali, Weronika Nowakowska-Ziemniak, and Eva Tofalvi make it a point to get together at least once a week during the competition season to talk about life, biathlon and laugh a lot. After the season, this trio stays in touch and every year they spend some holiday time together. Even though biathlon brought them together, this trio has something that goes well beyond sport.
