Season Wrap-up with Martin and Tora

The 2012-13 E.ON IBU World Cup Biathlon season is now over, with Martin Fourcade of France and Tora Berger of Norway taking home all of the crystal globes this evening in Khanty Mansiysk.

Fourcade Masters Mass Start

Martin Fourcade won the final competition of the season, with a dominating performance on the tracks in the final two loops today. He had one penalty, touring the 15K course in 41:51.4, securing the seasonal mass start title and all of this year’s crystal globes. Second went to Austria’s Dominik Landertinger, with one penalty, 13.9 seconds back, while Emil Hegle Svendsen finished third, also with one penalty, 17.3 seconds back.

Soukalova Sweeps with Mass Start Win

Gabriela Soukalova of the Czech Republic pulled off a hat trick today as she won the season-ending mass start, with clean shooting in 38:22.4. she earlier won the sprint and pursuit competitions. Second went to Marie Dorin Habert of France, with one penalty, 11.2 seconds back. Kaisa Mäkäräinen of Finland flew through the finals 2.5K to claim third, with two penalties, 22.9 seconds back.

Sumann Wins Snowy Pursuit

Austria’s Christoph Sumann, relegated to the IBU Cup earlier in the season on the men’s 12.5K pursuit as heavy snow fell in Khanty Mansiysk. He shot clean in his 34:47.9 win. Simon Fourcade, shooting clean finished second, 35.7 seconds back and Martin, with five penalties, and the Czech Republic’s Michal Slesingr, with three penalties were both given third place, 40.4 seconds back in third.

Two in a Row for Soukalova

Gabriela Soukalova of the Czech Republic claimed her third World Cup victory and her second victory in a row today in 30:58.8, with a two-penalty performance in the women’s 10K pursuit. Russia’s Olga Vilukhina finished second, with three penalties, 7 seconds back. Tora Berger of Norway finished third, with two penalties, 14.8 seconds back.

Fourcade Incomparable In Khanty Sprint

France’s Martin Fourcade again buried the field in the men’s 10K sprint, with a clean-shooting 24:22.6 victory, 39.6 seconds ahead of second place Lukas Hofer of Italy, who also shot clean. Germany’s Andi Birnbacher also shot clean but finished third, 43.8 seconds back.
