|Celebration in Kurhaus|
|Just as the awards ceremony for the women’s 15K individual was winding down in Champions Park, IBU Night in the Ruhpolding Kurhaus was getting underway.
This was the annual night when the IBU brings together the biathlon family for a nice meal, some good conversation and a big “thank you.” The 300 plus invited guests included IBU staff and officials, sponsors, media, national federations, and volunteers as well as members of the Ruhpolding Organizing Committee. These varied groups are the people who make “biathlon happen” every week and throughout the year.
Photos, Videos, and Presentations
IBU Secretary General Nicole Resch opened the evening with a welcome and her personal thank you to everyone in attendance. Over the course of three hours, the program included live music, a sports/dance presentation, a slideshow of competition photos, videos from Biathlonworld.com TV and several special presentations.
Many Nations on the Podium
IBU President Anders Besseberg added his welcome to the biathlon family and praised the competitions here in Ruhpolding. He made a special point of mentioning the many different nations who have won medals over the past week. He made two special presentations. The first was the IBU Bronze medal to long-time Ruhpolding Competition Secretary and IBU International Referee Brigitte Bentele, who is retiring from her position in Ruhpolding after these World Championships. The second was a beautiful crystal piece presented to Ruhpolding Mayor and OC President Claus Pichler in recognition of the 2012 IBU World Championships.
This annual IBU night was a perfect evening for everyone in the sport to reflect on the success of biathlon while enjoying a few relaxing hours before it was time to return to the stadium and more competitions.
