At Home

Kontiolahti is really her home stadium. She started her biathlon career by borrowing a rifle from the Kontiolahti Biathlon Club, of which she is a member and she lives nearby in Joensuu.  She does much of her training in the stadium that hosts E.ON IBU World Cup Biathlon 8 this week. This week is a true homecoming for Mäkäräinen.

Crystal Globes

The veteran biathlete came into a league of her own last season, scoring her first World Cup wins, World Championships and a fistful of crystal globes at the end of the season.

Everything I Need

Yet, according to Mäkäräinen, other “than having everything I need for training,” not much has changed in her life. She lives in an apartment that has training gear everywhere. She loves home-grown Finnish punk rock and the long summer nights in Finland, “when I maybe stay up too late.”

Kaisa Mäkäräinen talked to TV about her life in the following video “Kaisa Mäkäräinen: Biathlon, Music, and Warm Summer Nights.”
